For experimentation, commercials were first brought in the year 1967., The commercial service also got extended to Primary channels as well as FM & Local Radio Stations. Only programmes of classical music were allowed. Earlier AIR had implemented a ban on film songs. It marked the beginning of commercial service in Indian broadcasting. The popular channel on AIR radio, Vividh Bharati Service was conceived in the year 1957 to compete with Radio Ceylon. It presents a mix of film music, skits, short plays and interactive programmes. The service provides entertainment for nearly 15 to 17 hours a day. Within no time it proved to be a popular channel of every household. The popular Vividh Bharati Service of All India Radio was to combat 'Radio Ceylon' in 1957. ![]()
